A masterful performance: David Angell adds world gold to long list of wins

David Angell has been winning races for more than 30 years, first at Franklin County High School, then at Roanoke College, and now as one of the top masters runners in the United States.

Scotty Scott: Fueled by curiosity, coffee and community

Durelle “Scotty” Scott has spent more than 15 years running, riding, and building community in the NRV. This fall, he’s heading to Raleigh for a new job and a new adventure. He will be missed.

He donated a kidney to a stranger. Then he won a national championship.

In 2021, at age 55, the longtime construction worker underwent major surgery to donate one of his kidneys to a total stranger. Four years later he won a national title in his age group.
